PRIMARY LEAD GUIDE (Open to co-guiding)

Philomath Montessori School is seeking a trained Primary Guide (AMI preferred) to lead an established classroom of 25 students, with two classroom assistants and administrative support.

Position Details

  • Schedule: 7:30–4:00, M–Th, plus prescheduled meetings and events
  • Extended week option (5th day) for increased salary
  • School-year program (mid-August to mid-June)
  • Start date: Mid-August 2026, with an opportunity for transitional overlap and mentorship from our highly experienced current Guide in May/June 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

The Primary Guide is responsible for preparing and maintaining a beautiful, orderly Montessori environment that supports the holistic development of children ages 2.5 to 6. The Guide fosters independence, concentration, and a love of learning by presenting lessons and offering individualized support in accordance with our school mission.

Qualifications:

  • Montessori Primary Certification (AMI preferred)
  • Lead Teacher Qualifications as required by the Oregon Dept. of Early Learning and Care
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred, not required)
  • Previous experience working in a Montessori classroom with children preferred
  • Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy and principles
  • A genuine love for working with children and a commitment to their growth and development
  • Ability to create a supportive, inclusive, and dynamic classroom environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting
  • Openness to being coached

Philomath Montessori School is located in Philomath, OR, a town of approximately 5,000 people located just west of Corvallis, home to Oregon State University. Our small non-profit school established in 1984 maintains one full primary classroom. The current director has been at the school since 2011 and is an AMI trained guide.
